Top-seeded Salpointe beat No. 16 Ironwood Ridge 5-0 on Tuesday to advance to the quarterfinal round of the Division II Team Playoffs to be played next Tuesday. It’s been 18 years since the Lancers entered the postseason as the top seed, mostly due to the dominance of Catalina Foothills.

Salpointe (11-0) won a state championship as the top seed in 2006 but the team won it all again in 2007 as a No. 9 seed, a No. 4 seed in 2009, a No. 2 seed in 2010 and a No. 2 seed in 2011. In all, the Lancers have eight state championships from 1993 to 2011. Ironwood Ridge won a state title in 2012.

Catalina Foothills came in ranked No. 9 and the program lost to No. 9 Notre Dame Prep 5-2 in the first round. The Falcons have 17 titles, including the last five in a row. There will be a new D-II championship team for the first time since 2017.

The Lancers will host Notre Dame Prep (14-1) next Tuesday for a shot at the semifinal round. Notre Dame lost in the first round last year and the Lancers made it to the semifinals.
