Chinle Wildcats capture 3A North Regional Baseball Tournament championship

Chinle Wildcats 3A North Regional Tournament baseball champions.

Chinle chalked up a pair of victories enroute to earning the 3A North Regional Tournament baseball championship at Tuba City High School.

Chinle posted a 9-2 win over the Monument Valley Mustangs in the tournament semifinals. The Wildcats advanced into the tournament championship, facing the Page Sand Devils, who eliminated the Window Rock Fighting Scouts in the semifinals.

Chinle's pitching, defense and offense went to work effeciently, chalking up a 16-1 victory over Page for the tournament championship.

Monument Valley jumped out to the lead, 1-0 at the end of the first inning. Chinle battled back, crossing the plate three times in the third inning. The Wildcats added one run in the fourth inning. Chinle tallied five runs in the fifth inning. Monument Valley managed one run in the fifth inning.

Chinle head coach Don Kimbrough said the Wildcats its offensive attack at the plate in the third inning, when Josh Tullie ignited the Wildcats. KImbrough said Wildcat catcher Jermaine Jones was impressive behind the plate. Kimbrough said Jones did not have any pass balls.

Winning pitcher was Bryneil Hoskie. Hoskie allowed three hits, fanning seven batters and issuing three walks. Anthony Yazzie pitched in relief.Losing pitcher was Tyrrell Holiday. Holiday gave up 13 hits and nine runs.

"Our team's hitting came around very well," Kimbrough said. "We had good, strong pitching from Bryneil Hoskie and Anthony Yazzie."

Chinle's Jayden Guy lead Chinle at the plate with three hits. Anthony Yazzie, with two RBI, Jermaine Joes, Nelson Lynch and Myron Hoskis all head two hits each. Josh Tullie and Jake Guy had one hit apiece for the Wildcats.

Pacing Monument Valley at the plate were Tyrrell Holiday, Marvin Young and Kynell Cooley.

Chinle had 13 hits in four innings, enroute to a 16-1 win over Page for the regional tournament championship.

"Our hitting was very good, with 13 hits in four innings," Kimbrough said. "We faced four Page pitchers with various styles and deliveries. We hit them all well."

Chinle scored one run in the first inning, followed by seven runs in the second inning, one in the third inning and seven runs in the fourth inning.

Page scored its lone run in the fourth inning.

Myron Hoskie had three hits to pace Chinle at the plate. Anthony Yazzie, with two RBI, Jake Guy and Jermaine Jones all had two hits apiece. Nelson Lynch, with three ribbies, Jaron Segay, Bryneil Hoskie and Josh Tullie all had one hit for Chinle.

Jayden Guy was the winning pitcher. while going the distance on the mound. Guy struckout four batters, allowing five hits and one run in five innings.

"We were very impressed with the team's performance," Kimbrough said. "We feel very strong going into the playoffs."

Chinle, 19-7 overall,  travels to Show Low to face the Cougars on Wednesday for a 3:30 p.m. game. Chinle is number 16 in the latest power rankings. Chinle is the lone 3A North Region school ranked in the top 24.
