It's been a nice year for former Highland High quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick with the surprising Buffalo Bills. Another former Highland player figured prominently this past Sunday in helping the Oakland Raiders secure an emotional win over Houston a day after the passing of its iconic owner Al Davis.

Chaz Schilens, a receiver-defensive back at Highland in 2000-02, caught a late touchdown pass Sunday for Oakland in the Raiders 25-20 win over Houston. Schilens, who played football and baseball at Highland and was drafted by Detroit in baseball after his senior year, went on to play college football at San Diego State for four years (2004-07). He was drafed by Oakland in the seventh round of the 2008 NFL draft and has played the last four years with the Raiders.

Schilens has endured an injury-plagued career, but has managed to catch 56 passes for 696 yards and six TDs in limited action. He caught two passes for 25 yards on Sunday, but the big one was for 18 yards and a go-ahead TD in the fourth quarter.
