Former Buena standout Brianna Hardy named NJCAA D-II National Softball Player of the Year

Former Buena standout Brianna Hardy was chosen 2019 Schutt Sports/NFCA NJCAA Division II National Player of the Year playing for Phoenix College.

According to a release from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA), Hardy led the NJCAA Division II in wins (32), strikeouts (371), strikeouts per game (12.55) and shutouts (19).

Hardy also ranked third nationally in earned-run average (1.25) and complete games (31), fourth in innings pitched (207), fifth in games started (32) and eighth in appearances (37).

In the batter’s box, Hardy hit .347 and collected 42 hits, four doubles, 13 homers and 46 RBI for Phoenix, which went 52-9 this season, and lost twice to LSU Eunice at the NJCAA Division II championship.

Hardy’s teammates from Phoenix College also earned some national and regional honors:

Former Campo Verde standout Haley Johnson earned NJCAA First Team All-American honors and Makenzie Whitten of Mountain Ridge earned Second Team All-American honors.

Former Sunrise Mountain standout Hanna Krosky was named to the NJCAA South All-Region First Team and former Perry standout Sydnee Smith earned All-Region Second Team honors.
