Top-seed Xavier and No. 3 seed Chaparral didn't have easy roads to the finals in the quarterfinals Monday and that stayed true in Wednesday's semifinals  at Independence High School.

Defending champ Chaparral trimmed Sunnyslope, 5-2, and Xavier outlasted Gilbert, 5-3, at Independence High School to earn berths in Thursday's state team final.

Xavier (18-0) and Chaparral (16-2) met once during the regular season, two weeks ago with Xavier taking a 6-3 victory. Chaparral won the title match in 2010, 5-2. Thursday's final is set for 6:30 p.m. at Independence High.
