A loss at Arizona Lutheran Academy last season left a sour taste in the mouths of Valley Christian.

More than a year removed from a two-point defeat, the Trojans were out for blood. On Friday the 13th, they got their revenge in a 49-13 blowout at home.

Not only did the Trojans improve to 3-0 but they also kept their explosive 40-plus point per game streak alive. The Trojans did almost everything right.

The Valley Christian offense scored on every drive except for two and only missed one extra point. “Coach’s preparations were great. We feel like we executed very well in the first half,” said running back Tony Gomez.

The Trojans blocked an extra point after the first touchdown and gave up the other seven points in garbage time.

“On defense we’ve just been lights out all year,'' said coach Kirk Sundberg "This offense forces you to be locked in and disciplined, and our team is growing in their confidence.''

There was no mercy from the Trojans right out of the gate. The Trojans forced a fumble, scored twice and converted a trick play on a two-point conversion to go up 13-0 in the first eight minutes of play and 42-6 at the half..

This game was one that the Trojans had circled on their schedule and it showed on every snap. From offense to defense to special teams, there was only one thing on the mind of the Valley Christian football team this week.

“I feel like we have to look at our history (including against this team) and look at what a loss would feel like,'' said Gomez. "We’re trying to prevent getting that feeling inside of us.''

With big plays from Gomez, Vinnie Lagatta, Caden Majercak and others, the Trojans were encouraged, but not satisfied.

“We’re going focus on one team week by week but we really want that championship”, said Majercak.

“There’s always things we can do better, even though we were successful,” said Sundberg.
