Brophy got a slight jump on a very crowded team leader board Friday and has a one-shot lead after the first-round of the Division I boys state golf tournament at Tucson's Dell Urich Golf Course.

Brophy fashioned a 3-under score of 277 after Friday's first round and leads last year's runner-up Desert Vista (278) and last year's champion Red Mountain (281). Right behind them are Hamilton and Pinnacle at 282 and Perry at 285.

Top score of the day was a sizzling 62 shot by Pinnacle senior Zach Wright, who shot 30 on the front nine and 32 on the back -- an 8-under-par round. Nipping at Wright's heels is Independence's Anthony Quezada who carded a 63. Desert Vista's Cody McManus and Brophy's Tyler Kerston shot 66, Hamilton's Ken Iida a 67. Four players are tied at 68 -- Red Mountain's JT Rodenkirch, Horizon's Zach Olson, Mesa Mountain View's Hayden Webb and Mountain Pointe's Austin Fletcher. Nineteen players shot even par or better.

In the Division II bosy tournament at Randolph North Course, Canyon del Oro takes a 16-shot lead over Thunderbird to Saturday's final round. CDO's Logan France leads the tournament after shooting a 2-under-par 70. Six players are withing three shots of France. They are Thunderbird's Steve Otlewski (71), Canyon del Oro's Jaime Waltimire (72), Cactus' Kale Davidson (72) and CDO's Jack Otis, Sunrise Mountain's Tommy Marino and Agua Fria's A.J. Wilhite  all at 73.

Both tournaments tee off for Saturday's final round at 7 a.m.
