There's a reason George De La Torre -- if he somehow isn't confirmed as Dobson High's new football coach in early February -- can't get his old job back.

That's because Florence High hired De La Torre's replacement on Thursday. Tha replacement is Steve McKane, a former two-way standout at Mesa High who played on two state championship teams (1990 and 1992).

McKane, the son of former Mesa High coach Bill McKane, played linebacker and center at Mesa High between 1990-1992. He graduated from Mesa in 1993 and went on to play collegiately at the University of Utah.

Steve McKane has coached previously at the high school and college level. He just finished a six-year stint as a defensive coach and recruiting coordinator at Western Illinois. Prior to that he was an assistant at Independence High. This will be his first head coaching job.
