Recap - Scottsdale Christian Academy at Fountain Hills

August 31, 2012 by Game Previews, AZPreps365

Senior quarterback Luke O'Neill ran for two touchdowns and threw for another and Scottsdale Christian Academy's defense continued its streak of not allowing a touchdown as the Eagles notched an impressive road win over the Fountain Hills Falcons 31-6 Friday night.

O'Neill's TDs of 3 and 2 yards came within a five-minute span in the second half, and he put SCA on the board in the second quarter with a 24-yard strike to senior wideout Sam Filingame, who recorded his third touchdown of the 2012 campaign. Jordan Dunn added a 38-yard field goal early in the 3rd quarter for the Eagles, and junior running back Zechariah Gatling scored on a 29-yard scamper in the final quarter.

Fountain Hills opened the scoring with a 27-yard field goal by junior placekicker Andreas Gromoll after the Falcons' defense recovered a fumble on the Eagles' first play from scrimmage. Gromoll would add a 33-yard effort with 1:05 left in the fist half to pull the Falcons to within 7-6 at the half. But Fountain Hills' offense never got within the Eagles' 15-yard line for the rest of the game.

After an opening week shutout of Camp Verde, Scottsdale Christian improves to 2-0 on the season. The Eagles will return home next Friday to play Northwest Christian. Fountain Hills, who drops to 0-2 after being blanked by Seton Catholic last week, travels to Payson next week still looking for its first touchdown of 2012.
