Preview - Cactus at Saguaro

September 19, 2012 by Game Previews, AZPreps365

Cactus High School will look to get some measure of redemption Friday night by beating Saguaro High School, the team that defeated the Cobras for the Division III state championship last year. In 2011, the Sabercats downed Cactus 31-23 in Flagstaff to capture the state crown.

Quarterback Luke Rebenzer, who led Saguaro to the title last season, returns for his junior year and is averaging an eye-popping 365.5 total yards per contest. As a team, the Sabercats average 535 yards of offense and 41.5 points per game in 2012. The Saguaro defense has not surrendered a point in the last eight quarters of play, and the team has not lost a home game this year.

Cactus is undefeated in games played inside the state of Arizona, with its only loss coming to Bakersfield, California in the Golden State back on August 31. Junior quarterback Talal Yousufzai has amassed over 700 total yards of offense through four games in leading his team to a 48.7 points-per-game average. Senior Josh Kindred returned a kickoff 96 yards for a score in the Cobras' 22-17 victory last week over Greenway.

Both teams enter the contest with 3-1 records. Cactus is ranked 15th in the state according to MaxPreps.com, while Saguaro is two spots behind the Cobras at #17 in the poll. Kickoff is set for 7pm at Saguaro High School in Scottsdale.
