Arizona prep players helped create Giants story

November 4, 2010 by Don Ketchum, AZPreps365

After the San Francisco Giants recently won the World Series, their first since moving West from New York in 1958, a lot was said and written about the men who never reached that pinnacle, players such as Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, Orlando Cepeda, Juan Marichal and Barry Bonds.
Over the years, the Giants had a handful of players from Arizona high schools who have contributed to the story by the Bay.
Here they are, according to the Giants’ official media guide . . . I hope I didn’t leave anyone out.
*Gary Rajsich, 1985, INF, Phoenix Central.
*Randy McCament, 1989-90, RHP, Phoenix Greenway.
*Terry Kennedy, 1989-91, C, Phoenix St. Mary’s.
*Ed Vosberg, 1990, LHP, Tucson Salpointe Catholic.
*John Patterson, 1992-95, INF, Phoenix Trevor Browne.
*Mark Carreon, 1993-96, OF, Tucson Salpointe Catholic.
*Shea Hillenbrand, 2006, INF, Mesa Mountain View.
When we have more time, perhaps we can create more of a complete list of Arizona-bred players who reached the majors.
