New recommendations to qualify for state on AIA board agenda

A busy day awaits the Arizona Interscholastic Association’s executive board when it meets for the first time this year.

Tuesday’s agenda for the board is filled with important topics, including section appeals and a possible vote on a new transfer rule. Also on the agenda are the new automatic state qualifying recommendations the AIA’s sports advisory committees want to adopt.

If accepted, the recommendations will be implemented during the 2013-14 school year. Below are the recommendations.

Recommendations

Sport/bracket size/automatic qualifiers from each section

Badminton, 16 teams, one team section

Baseball, 24 teams, one per section

Basketball, 24 teams, four from each super sectional tournament, with three super sectional tournaments per division.

11-man football, 16 teams, one per section

8-man football, 12 teams, one per section

Fall soccer for girls, eight teams, one per section

Fall soccer for boys, 12 teams, one per section

Winter soccer, 16 teams, one per section

Softball, 24 teams, two per section

Tennis, 16 teams, two per section

Girls volleyball, 16 teams, two per section

Boys volleyball, 24 teams, three per section
