Hidden gem approaching baseball state records

Paradise Valley Community College is getting one of the hidden gems of this year’s Arizona senior high school baseball class.

Christian Camacho has delivered at the plate since the day he stepped on the field for Trevor Browne, as the four-year starter hasn’t missed a varsity start (100 games).

Camacho’s dedication, consistency and plate discipline are allowing him to help his team win and get closer to breaking career state records. He needs just three more doubles to tie the state's all-time big school career mark (54) and is six away from becoming the state's all-time leader in that category.

Trevor Browne coach Deston Cummings hasn’t posted this year’s stats, but he believes that Camacho also is getting closer to the hits and runs scored career marks as well.

“The kid (Camacho) makes Trevor Browne proud,” Cummings said.

Camacho didn’t hit lower than .471 during his first three seasons, including his sophomore year, when he hit .618.

In the classroom, Camacho is toting a 4.23 GPA. As for his ego, it’s invisible.

When Cummings is looking for a volunteer to retrieve a baseball in the outfield during practice, Camacho takes off without looking at anybody else.

“He (Camacho) does things the right way,” Cummings said.
