Never too late to get in record book: Player hits 4 homers

It’s never too late to get somebody in the record books.

The newest member to join the aia365.com’s record book is Show Low’s Zach Winn, who hit four home runs in a game about a month ago. Show Low coach David Nikolaus was notified of the accomplishment on Sunday.

The four homers in a game tied an all-class state baseball record that’s held by six other players. The last player to hit that many in a game was Pat McIntire of Sedona Red Rock in 1999.

Winn’s record-tying performance came against Round Valley.

“He (Winn) was just kind of in a zone on that day,” Nikolaus said. “We were seeing good pitching from Round Valley, but Zach was able to go deep twice off of their starting left hander.”

Winn hit his third homer off a reliever and his fourth was a 400-foot shot. The senior went 4 for 4 on that day with nine RBI’s.

“It was a great moment for those in attendance and special moment for Zach,” Nikolaus said.
