D.J. Peterson signs on dotted line for $2.5 million with Ms

D.J. Peterson took  less than a week to decide to go pro and did so Wednesday (June 12) when the former Gilbert High standout signed with the Seattle Mariners for $2.5 million.

Peterson, who also starred at the University of New Mexico, was the 12th pick overall in the 2013 first-year player draft held June 6. Peterson was at Safeco Field Seattle on Wednesday and took batting practice with the Mariners. Peterson will begin his pro career at at Class A Everett. 

"This is what you dream of as a little kid, hitting BP on the big field," Peterson told Mariners.com. "I've got some work to do to get up here and be with these guys on an everyday basis. But right now I'm just embracing this. This is awesome. My family is loving it. So it was fun, a lot of fun."
