Dr. Harold Slemmer is gearing up for a busy 2013-14 school year.

On top of his duties as the Arizona Interscholastic Association’s executive director, Dr. Slemmer also will serve as the president of the National Federation of State High School Associations for the upcoming school year. This is only the second time that the NFHS has elected a president with AIA ties.

Former AIA executive director Dr. Voi Coy als was elected to serve a one-year term as NFHS president. Dr. Slemmer officially began his one-year term on June 28 during the summer meeting of the NFHS in Denver.

“It’s a great honor to take on the responsibility of representing all of the state’s high school associations as its president,” Dr. Slemmer said.

Dr. Slemmer will step into his new role as the NFHS is preparing to launch a national sports network in September.

Several states, including Arizona, will provide content to the network. The AIA’s officials, including Chuck Schmidt, have worked with the NFHS to help set up the new sports network.
