Homecoming Game

October 14, 2013 by Evan Weber AZPreps365

It was a battle as the Northwest Christian Crusaders hosted the Arizona Lutheran Academy Coyotes in their 2013 Homceoming Game. The Coyotes were seeking revenge after losing to the Crusaders last season. Leading the charge for the Crusaders was number 10, Matt Delos.

Matt, also known as "Big Dawg" stands at 5'11 two-hundred and two pounds, and is the leader of the defense as he starts at Inside Linebacker also known as the "Mike" Linebacker. Matt is one of the captains and he is one of the vocal leaders for the Crusaders

Friday's night game against the Coyotes was a mediocre game for number 10. Some points he showed flashes while at other times he frustrated the team and Crusader Nation. Let's start with the positives. On Offense Matt plays Running-Back and he did well except for one play. In Coach Henderson's offense Matt lines up all over the field whether its in the backfield or in the slot. He is a dual-threat, so he has the ability to catch the ball and run the ball. Delos had four receptions for forty-five and a big twenty-five yard touchdown catch which put the Crusaders up in the middle of the fourth quarter. Delos also had six carries for forty-seven yards and a touchdown. Matt is not the main Running-Back, but when they need short yardage they're calling number 10; he is their bulldozer back.

Now let's switch over to his main position, the Mike Linebacker. I think Matt is a better Linebacker then he is Running-Back. Even though he is a little too short for the Mike Backer, he makes up for it with his killer instincts. Matt is the typical "sideline to sideline" backer, wherever the ball is you know Matt is going to be there to either make the tackle or be apart of the tackle.

Matt had three solo tackles and eleven assists which puts him at fourteen tackles and he also had a sack for a one yard loss. Matt is very good in coverage too where he can play man and zone. Matt is clearly the Crusaders top defensive player.

Overall Matt Delos played well until the fourth quarter. Delos was beat in coverage when the Running-Back ran a wheel route and was crucial to the Crusaders loss. When ALA scored the Crusaders were up by one point and they got the ball back. on the first play of the drive Quarterback Drew Inness hands the ball left to Delos and he fumbles and eventually The Coyotes would score again and leave very little time for the offense to score. Matt looka to rebound in the next few games.
