Nike TOC: Chandler vs. South Mtn. for Black Division title

Chandler and South Mountain high schools join Desert Vista, Dobson and Marcos de Niza on Saturday (Dec. 21) playing for respective division championships at the 18th annual Nike Tournament of Champions in Chandler.

Chandler won its semifinal on Friday by beating Williams Field, 46-36. South Mountain earned its spot in the final by defeating Marin Catholic (Kentfield, Calif.), 43-36. Chandler and South meet on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Perry High. Chandler is 6-3 and South is 10-2. Chandler competes in Division I and South competes in Division II.

Colorado schools denied a trio of other Arizona schools spots in championship games. Hamilton lost its bid to play for the Mike Desper title, falling to Grandview (Colo), 49-32. Basha also dropped a semifinal decision in the Green Division. The Lady Bears were beaten by Cherry Creek (Greenwood Village, Colo), 44-18. Mesquite couldn't hold a two-point halftime lead and bowed to Rock Canyon (Highlands Ranch, Colo.), 43-37.

Dobson and Desert Vista meet for the White Division title at 10:30 a.m. at Hamilton High. Marcos de Niza faces Castle View (Castle Rock, Colo) for the Red Division crown at 10:30 a.m. at Perry High.
