Hamilton, St. Marys girls go unbeaten in holiday tournaments

Hamilton and St. Marys ventured out of state after Christmas and emerged 4-0 at tournaments in San Diego, Calif,; and Portland, Ore.; respectively.

Hamilton won its four games at the So Cal Holiday Prep Classic to extent their season record to 10-2. The Huskies knocked off Mesa Red Mountain, 47-32, in its final game on Dec. 30. Red Mountain posted a 3-1 record in the tournament and returned to Arizona with a solid 10-3 record.

St. Mary's picked up where it left off at the NIke Tournament of Champions I by sweeping its four games at the Nike Innterstate Shootout in Portland, Ore. The Knights have won six straight games and resume regular season play with an 11-1 record by hosting Chandler High (10-3) on Tuesday.

Chandler and Perry high schools had the best finishes among  East Valley and southern Arizona schools last week at the NIke Tournament of Champions II in Chandler.

Chandler placed 9th in the Gray Division and Perry equalled that in the Black Division. Both schools posted 3-1 records.

Other East Valley and southern Arizona schools competing were Marcos de Niza (2-2, 10th-Black); Florence 2-2, 13th-Black); Salt River (2-2, 14th-Black);Desert Vista (1-3, 15th-Gray) and Salpointe (16th, 0-4 Black).
