Cook, McCray, Greene, Fouts & Majam Named Max Preps/NFCA National H.S. Players of the Week

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Senior Megan Cook (Bellingham (Bellingham, Mass.) H.S.), junior third baseman Molly McCray (North Mac (Virden, Ill.) H.S.), sophomore pitcher/first baseman Peyton Greene (West Rowan (Mt. Ulla, N.C.)H.S.), eighth-grade pitcher/first baseman Montana Fouts (East Carter (Grayson, Ky.) H.S.) and senior pitcher/shortstop Grayce Majam (Mountain Empire (Pine Valley, Calif.) H.S.) have been chosen as the MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Players of the Week for games played over May 5-11.

East Region

Cook was truly stellar from the circle for the Blackhawks, compiling a 3-0 record with a 0.35 ERA, a pair of no-hitters and 41 strikeouts over 20 innings of work, while also blasting a grand slam and knocking in five runs at the plate. She struck out at least 11 in each of her three starts, K'ing 11 in a no-hit effort during a 12-0 win over Holliston (also registered a grand slam) and 14 in another no-no during a 6-0 triumph over Millis. For the year Cook is a perfect 9-0 overall with a 0.25 ERA and 113 K's in 56 frames, while batting .429 with six extra-base hits and 18 RBIs.

North Region

McCray powered the Panthers to a perfect 6-0 week from the plate, batting a ridiculous .714 (15-for-21) with seven runs scored, four doubles, three HR's and 15 RBIs. She managed to hit safely in all six match-ups with her finest effort coming during an 11-10 win over Bunker Hill (Ill.) as McCray went 2-for-4 at the dish with a pair of tallies, two HR's and six RBIs. Overall, she is hitting at a .564 clip with 16 runs scored, 10 extra-base hits and 23 RBIs over 13 contests.

South Region

Greene registered a perfect 3-0 mark from the circle for the Falcons with a 0.40 ERA and 22 strikeouts over 17.2 frames of work, while batting .300 (3-for-10) with a pair of doubles and two RBIs. During an 8-0 victory over Carson (N.C.), she struck out 10 and also went 1-for-3 at the dish with a pair of RBIs. Thus far in 2014, she possesses an 11-2 mark with a 1.35 ERA and 90 strikeouts over 77.2 innings, while batting .356 with 10 extra-base hits and 16 RBIs.

South Central Region

During the Raiders' unbeaten week, Fouts posted a 3-0 record with a 0.00 ERA and 30 strikeouts over 19.1 innings, while hitting at a .444 clip (4-for-9) with a pair of tallies and three RBIs. She was at her best from the circle during a 6-0 blanking of Rowan County (Ky.), striking out 12 in twirling a one-hit shutout. Thus far in 2014, Fouts is 15-2 overall with a 0.13 ERA and 189 K's over 105.2 frames to go along with a .411 batting mark, eight extra-base hits and 25 RBIs.

West Region

Majam was amazing at both the plate and in the circle for the Red Hawks over five match-ups last week, going 11-for-13 (.846) with 13 tallies, a double, four triples, four HR's and 16 RBIs, while posting a 3-0 pitching record with 29 strikeouts over 17 innings. Her finest performances came during a pair of one-hit shutouts as Majam went 3-for-3 with a triple, two HR's and six RBIs (also struck out 12) in a 14-0 romp of Vincent Memorial (Calif.) and 2-for-2 with two big flies and four RBIs (struck out nine) during a 10-0 rout of Borrego Springs (Calif.). For the year she is 9-1 with a 1.06 ERA and 110 K's over 59.1 frames, while batting .744 with 22 extra-base hits and 27 RBIs.

During the fall campaign, just a single player will be selected representing all participating regions.
