This past weekend, Valley Christian graduates Alaina Bergsma '08 and Breanna Leslie '09 were inducted into the Chandler Sports Hall of Fame in a ceremony at the Chandler Performing Arts Center. Both Bergsma and Leslie are currently training and competing for a spot on the U.S. Olympic team in their respective sports.

Alaina Bergsma was a four year starter for the Trojans and earned All-League, All-Metro Region and All-State Tournament team honors in her sophomore to senior years. She was an integral part of the VCHS team which reached the State Quarterfinals in 2005 and the State Semifinals during her junior and senior years. She also lettered one season in track and basketball.

She played for Loyola Marymount University one year before moving to the University of Oregon. Alaina's talent quickly brought recognition, and she finished her 2009 year All-West Coast Conference Team and Freshman of the Year. She became Oregon's first AVCA National and Pac-12 Player of the Year in 2012. At the University of Oregon she ranked third all-time in career points, fifth in career hitting and fifth in career kills, leading her team to their best-ever finish as a NCAA runner-up.

In 2011 Alaina played for the USA Volleyball A2 National Team. She joined the US Women's National Volleyball team in 2013 and 2014. She also played for the Minas Tenis Clube in Brazil.

Breanna Leslie is a standout track and field athlete, whose primary event is heptathlon.  At Valley Christian High School, she won 11 individual track state championships.  She holds VCHS records in heptathlon points, 300m hurdles, 200m, and the 4x400m relay.

Breanna attended Azusa Pacific University where she continued to excel on the track.  At the conclusion of her career, she had earned multiple All-American honors in multiple events, was named the NCCAA Athlete of the Meet in both the indoor and outdoor championships as a senior, and was the NCCAA 100m National Champion.  She is in the top 10 in 15 different events all time at Azusa Pacific, including holding the record for most points in the pentathlon and most points in the heptathlon.

In 2013, Breanna was invited to participate in the Pan-American Games for USA Track and Field.  She competed in the heptathlon, finishing 5th overall.  She sits in 9th place all time in USA Track and Field history for most points in the heptathlon.
