Gilbert Christian didn't take the lead until late in the first period Monday night and turned on the burners in the second period perhaps on its way to a rout.

No. 4 seed Gilbert Christian coughed up a 12 point-lead late in the third quarter, but got rescued by Cameron Satterwhite's basket and free throw in overtime to take a 55-52 win over No. 10 Arcadia. in the Division II boys championship game at Gila River Arena.

It's the fifth boys hoops championship in nine years for Gilbert Christian (25-6). The previous two came competing in Division III (2012 and 2013). The titles in 2010 and 2007 (Surrey Garden) were in 1A. Gilbert Christian won a couple close ones in its first two games of the tournament, but dethroned defnding champ Shadow Mountain by 13 in the semis. Mitch Lighfoot's 15 points and 12 rebounds and Satterwhite's 13 points, 10 reboundsand six assists paced the nerve-wracking triumph for the Knights.

Arcadia, which entered the state tournament on a two game-losing streak, was seeking its first boys basketball title ever. The Titans only other title-game appearance came in 1961 in the 3A Conference -- a loss to Casa Grande. They tied the  game with 18 seconds left  on Connor Nichols three. That capped a rally from double-digits down a couple times in the second half. Nichols scored a game-high 20 points despite missing more than a quarter with foul trouble in the second and third periods .Arcadia finished a solid season 22-10 under coach Stephen Danford.

Satterwhite's dunk with 2:34 left in overtime but Gilbert Christian ahead to stay, 52-50. with just under two minutes left Lightfoot sank two free throws to make it 54-50. Nichols came down and missed a three for Arcadia and later Elijah Sikora missed a shot for Arcadia after Jesus Bojorquez (14 points) made two free throws to make it 54-52.

Satterwhite was fouled with six seconds left in overtime and made the first of two. Arcadia rebounded, but Nichols desperation three was short of the mark at the buzzer.

Gilbert Christian made 8 of 18 3s in the first half in threatening to run away from the decided underdog Titans. Matt Burton and Bojorquez kept Arcadia in the game and helped cut the lead a combined nine points that pared Gilbert Christian's lead to 40-35 heading to the final period.

Nichols returned in the fourth and helped the final push for a tie with eight points, including the overtime sender with 18 seconds left.
