MaxPreps Top 25 national high school boys basketball rankings

Dwayne Bacon and No. 1 Oak Hill Academy were awarded the top seed in the upcoming Dick's Sporting Goods High School Nationals. The event will feature seven of the top 11 teams in this week's Xcellent 25.


MaxPreps Xcellent 25 National Basketball Rankings presented by the Army National Guard

1. (No. 1 last week) Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.), 45-0 *
Will participate in Dick's Sporting Goods High School Nationals, April 2-4 in New York City. The Warriors enter as the No. 1 seed and open against local entrant Wings Academy (Bronx, N.Y.).

2. (2) Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.), 28-1
Dick's Nationals participant. The two-time defending champions face No. 9 Greensboro Day in the quarterfinals.

3. (4) Cape Henry Collegiate (Virginia Beach, Va.), 31-2
VISAA Division I state champions. Season complete.

4. (5) Wheeler (Marietta, Ga.), 30-2
GHSA Class AAAAAA state champions. Moving on to Dick's Nationals, where they will meet No. 8 Huntington St. Joseph Prep in the opening round.

5. (6) Blanche Ely (Pompano Beach, Fla.), 28-0
FHSAA Class 7A state champions. Headed to Dick's Nationals for a first round showdown with No. 11 Findlay Prep.

7. (8) Jonesboro (Ga.), 32-1
GHSA Class AAAA state champions. Season complete.

8. (9) Huntington St. Joseph Prep (W.Va.), 30-2
The Fighting Irish will carry a 13-game win streak into their Dick's Nationals opener with No. 4 Wheeler.

9. (10) Greensboro Day (Greensboro, N.C.), 33-2
NCISAA Class 3A state champions. The Bengals – one of the nation's best defensive teams – will attempt to slow down high-scoring No. 2 Montverde Academy in the opening round at Dick's Nationals.

10. (11) Plano West (Plano, Texas), 33-2
UIL Class 6A state champions. Season complete.

Ivan Rabb and No. 13 Bishop O'Dowd will look to end a seven game losing streak in state title contests Saturday against No. 19 Mater Dei.

11. (12) Findlay Prep (Henderson, Nev.), 28-2
The Pilots are headed to Dick's Nationals, where they took home titles in 2009, 2010 and 2012 (known then as National High School Invitational).

12. (13) Wesleyan Christian Academy (High Point, N.C.), 27-5
NCISAA Class 3A runner-up. Season complete.

13. (14) Bishop O'Dowd (Oakland, Calif.), 27-4
This is what the Dragons have been waiting all year for. One of California's most consistent winners, O'Dowd is haunted by a seven game losing streak in state title contests. Head coach Lou Richie gets the opportunity to put an end to it Saturday against No. 19 Mater Dei.

14. (16) Mustang (Okla.), 28-0
OSSAA Class 6A state champions. Season complete.

15. (17) Cardinal Gibbons (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), 33-1
FHSAA Class 5A state champions. Season complete.

No. 19 Mater Dei will play for its fifth consecutive state title this weekend and 12th under legendary head coach Gary McKnight.

16. (19) Callaway (Jackson, Miss.), 31-3
MHSAA Class 5A state champions. Season complete.

17. (21) Garfield (Seattle), 27-2
WIAA Class 3A state champions. Season complete.

18. (22) Roman Catholic (Philadelphia), 29-2
PIAA Class AAAA state champions. Season complete.

19. (NR) Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.), 29-4
They're baaaack. Head coach Gary's McKnight's Monarchs will compete for a fifth consecutive CIF Open Division state title Saturday against No. 13 Bishop O'Dowd. Mater Dei dominated then-No. 24 Fairfax (Los Angeles) 51-40 in the Southern California regional final over the weekend.

20. (22) La Lumiere (LaPorte, Ind.), 23-2
Denied a bid to Dick’s Nationals, the Lakers will participate in the Bluegrass Series National Championship – a brand new event that begins Monday. La Lumiere opens against Victory Prep (Houston). Orangeville Prep (Canada), Prime Prep (Dallas, Texas), Prolific Prep (Napa, Calif.), Quality Education Academy (Winston-Salem, N.C.), Sunrise Christian Academy (Bel Aire, Kan.) and West Oaks (Orlando, Fla.) are also in the field.

In what has to be the most dominant state semifinal performance in high school basketball nationally this season, No. 22 Roselle Catholic beat Paulsboro 103-34 over the weekend.

21. (23) DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.), 33-4
Washington Catholic Athletic Conference regular season, Maryland private schools tournament and Alhambra Catholic Invitational champions. Season complete.

22. (NR) Roselle Catholic (Roselle, N.J.), 27-4
The Lions enter Monday night’s NJSIAA Tournament of Champions final against Pope John XXIII (Sparta) on a roll. Roselle Catholic beat Bob Hurley and St. Anthony (Jersey City) in the Non-Public B title game last week, then smashed Paulsboro 103-34 on Saturday in the TOC semifinals.

23. (NR) Stevenson (Lincolnshire, Ill.), 30-3
IHSA Class 4A state champions. Season complete.

24. (NR) Providence (Jacksonville, Fla.), 31-1
FHSAA Class 3A state champions. Season complete.

25. (25) Hamilton (Memphis, Tenn.), 16-16 *
TSSAA Class AAA state champions. Season complete.
