After more than three months without a football coach, Mesa Mtn. View finally has one.

The school announced Wednesday it has hired Cactus Shadows coach Chad DeGrenier as its next coach. DeGrenier will be the fourth coach in the 35-year history of the school.

DeGrenier, known for prolific passing attacks, replaces Tom Joseph, who was fired in mid-November after nine years as Toros head coach with a 93-26 record. DeGrenier has spent the last seven years as head coach at Cactus Shadows, a 4A school. The Falcons were 44-35 in DeGrenier's tenure, including a 15-0 state title season in 2006, two years after starting out 0-10 at Cactus Shadows. Three of DeGrenier's other seasons were sub-.500 and the last two, 11-1 and 7-4, respectively.

DeGrenier, 37, temporarily vacated his coaching position at Cactus Shadows last February to accept the head coaching position at Fossil Ridge High (Fort Collins, Colo.). DeGrenier changed his mind in April and remained as coach of the Falcons

Mountain View announced the firing of Joseph and the opening of the football position on Nov. 15. A round of interviews took place in early January, but ended with no resolution. The position was reopened Jan. 21. Mountain View has a won-loss record of 359-75-2 since opening in 1976 and has won seven big-school football titles.
