MaxPreps celebrates the top athletic program in the nation this season.

MaxPreps honored the top 25 high school sports programs in the nation last month, including a second-straight No. 1 finish by Bentonville (Ark.).

Now, MaxPreps looks at the top five programs in each of the 50 states. The top five placewinners for each state are listed below. Schools are awarded points for winning, or playing in, state championship games (in some cases "section" championship games if there is no state tournament). Points are also awarded based on type of sport, size of the state and size the of school.

Note: Point totals for Bentonville, Lincoln (Sioux Falls, N.D.) and Aquinas (Overland Park, Kan.) have been corrected from the original compilation last month.
