Friday football coverage plans

August 21, 2015 by Jose Garcia, AZPreps365

From a high school phenom to a Super Bowl champ, the radio talent that'll cover high school football along with our partners this season is widespread.

Max Starks, a two-time Super Bowl champ with the Steelers, is making his radio debut as an Arizona high school football analyst on AM 1060. The first assignment for the former 10-year lineman is Friday’s Queen Creek-Desert Mountain game.

Another former pro, Kurt Warner, will make his debut as Desert Mountain’s offensive coordinator.

Starks and the Steelers beat the Warner-led Cardinals in the 2009 Super Bowl. He won’t be protecting Ben Roethlisberger on Friday, but Starks’ AM 1060 wingman on Friday for the 7 p.m. game will be KTAR’s Craig Grialou.

You can also watch the game on-demand

Before the Desert Mountain-Queen Creek game, join local radio host/former NFL quarterback Dan Manucci and azcentral’s Richard Obert at 6 p.m. on AM 1060 for a preview of Friday’s big games.

For the first time, azpreps365.com has partnered up with a local independent, student run station, FM 88.7 The Pulse, with a signal that continues to grow all over the Valley.

FM 88.7 will also broadcast a game every week this season, beginning with Friday’s Desert Edge-Catalina Foothills game at Glendale Community College.

Manucci and Chris Martin will call that game.

After Friday’s action, tune in to FM 98.7 to listen to the Friday Night Wrap Up show, now in its 11th season. Pablo “The Wizard of the Westside” Rios, Kevin McCabe, Michael Carotenuto and James Mello will team up again to bring you the scores, interviews and highights of Friday's game.

The show, which starts at 9:30 p.m., will also feature game recaps from sideline reporters.

One of the radio reporters is Joey Liberatore. Liberatore is just a senior at Perry High but has already worked for the Chicago Cubs as an on-site radio engineer during spring training games and hosts a pre-game show for the Tennessee Smokies, the Cubs’ Double A affiliate.
