Sept. 18-19 features full slate of non-football events

This weekend -- Friday Sept. 18 and Saturday Sept. 19 -- is very busy for sports other than football. Here are some events happening in cross country, girls volleyball, swim-dive and badminton to partake in should you choose to support your child or school or both:

CROSS COUNTRY -- Five meets of note take place Sept. 19 and all begin early in the AM. They are the Ojo Rojo at Tumbleweed Park in Chandler, hosted by Chandler High (32 schools entered); Four Corners Invite at Buffalo Park in Flagstaff, hosted by Flagstaff HS (29 teams); Adobe Invitational at Victory Lane Park in Glendale hosted by Boulder Creek HS (19 teams);  King of the Mountain Invite at Arizona Golf Resort in Mesa, hosted by Red Mountain HS (17 teams); and Old Pueblo Invite at Lincoln Park in Tucson, hosted by St. Augustine Catholic HS (29 teams).

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL -- Sept 18 and 19: Tournament of Champions, hosted by Westwood HS. Competition among 36 teams at Highland, Mesa, Skyline and Westwood high schools. Many of top D-I and D-II programs entered; Estrella Foothills Wolves Invite, hosted by Estrella Foothills HS, 24 teams; Snowflake Invitational, hosted by Snowflake HS, 12 teams; White Tank Invitational, hosted by Valley Vista HS, 15 teams.

SWIMMING -- Sept. 19: Wolves Classic, hosted by Chandler HS; Northwest Arizona Invite, hosted by Kingman Academy, 8 regional teams.

BADMINTON -- Sept. 19: Bobbi Forner Invite, hosted by Sunnyslope HS; 7 teams entered.
