FOOTBALL: Southern Arizona D-II & III Playoff Glance

October 4, 2015 by Andy Morales, AZPreps365

Division II/Section I

Tucson (5-1, 1-0)

Sunnyside (4-2, 1-0)

Sahuaro (3-3, 1-0)

Salpointe (2-4, 0-1)

Cienega (1-5, 0-1)

Buena (0-6, 0-1)

The Badgers would have to have a complete meltdown to miss the playoffs. Sahuaro, Cienega at Salpointe and at Sunnyside remain on their schedule.

Only Tucson, Sunnyside and Sahuaro control their own destiny. The Cougars cannot afford another loss if they fail to win the section. Tucson at Sunnyside on Oct. 30 could be for the section championship.

Oddly, Cienega, Salpointe and even Buena have yet to be eliminated due to the automatic bid awarded to the section champion. Each would have to win out and hope the team that beat them loses twice.

Division II/Section III

Ironwood Ridge (5-1, 1-0)

Queen Creek (4-2, 1-0)

Mountain View (4-2, 0-1)

Canyon del Oro (1-5, 0-1)

Poston Butte (0-6, 0-0)

Ironwood Ridge and Queen Creek meet next Friday. This game became huge after Queen Creek defeated Mountain View on Friday. Mountain View has to cheer for Ironwood Ridge and then hope either Canyon del Oro or Poston Butte can also beat Queen Creek.

Either way, all three of these teams should make the playoffs. Poston Butte could win the section and make the playoffs with a 4-6 record. How crazy is that?

Division III/Section VI

Sabino (6-0, 3-0)

Catalina Foothills (5-2, 2-1)

Safford (4-2, 2-1)

Nogales (5-2, 1-1)

Marana (3-3, 1-1)

Desert View (3-3, 0-2)

Rincon/UHS (1-6, 0-3)

Sabino controls own destiny while Catalina Foothills needs to win out and have Marana lose another game. Nogales and Marana also need help. Sabino can eliminate Safford from section hopes on Friday and Foothills can do the same to Nogales.

It looks like only the section champ and one other team will make the playoffs.
