Two of the state’s marquee football state records were broken Friday night.

Westwood’s Ethan Johnson rushed for an all-class high 566 yards in Friday’s 46-41 win over Higley. The rushing total also is the 12th best ever recorded in the nation by a high school running back.

Johnson's also his ended his busy night with seven touchdowns, which tied a 5A Conference (Division I) single game state record.

Desert Edge also set a new rushing yard mark but as a team. The Goodyear program rushed for a single-game, all-class high 728 yards in Friday’s 83-27 win over Agua Fria.

The 728 yards also ranks No. 12 on the national all-time single game list for a team rushing total.
