Cross Country Sectionals: Rio Rico's Allie Schadler claims 5th best time in the nation

Southern Arizona Update:

Rio Rico junior Allie Schadler won the Division III, Section III title with a time of 16:47.7. This is the lowest official time recorded for the two-time state champion in her high school career.

Her time is also the best in the nation for a junior by almost 35 seconds and fifth best in the nation regardless of class year. Schadler is only 24 seconds behind Oregon commit Katie Rainsberger (16:23.3 ). Rainsberger is a senior from Colorado.

Schadler's freshman sister Samantha came in second and she currently has the fourth best time in the state (17:43.9) regardless of graduating class. Allie Schadler has the best time Arizona, of course. Her time is almost 45 seconds ahead of Xavier junior Sarah Carter (17:26.5 ). Carter's time is good for 22nd in the nation.

Buena standout Manuel Olivo-Quinones took third at the Division I, Section I meet held in Gilbert.

The Catalina Foothills girls won the Division II, Section II championship held at Marana High School the Falcons were paced by Katie Watson's third place finish (18:34.7). Cienega took third place.

The Salpointe boys took third place as a team while Catalina Foothills standouts Philippe Mortelliti (16:15.1) and Sam Pershing (16:19.5) came in second and third respectively.

The top three girl's teams in Division III, Section III were Rio Rico (35), Desert View (91) and Empire (102).  Flowing Wells standout Saydie Chavez came in third behind the Schadler sisters (19:04.1).

On the boy's side, Empire's Caleb Dusek took first (16:13.4) while Desert View runners Luis Torazon (16:14.6) and Andrew Vargas (16:25.4) followed.

Rio Rico (64) won the boy's title. Pueblo (92) took second and Desert View (99) finished in third place.

In Division IV, Thatcher (65) won the Section III title for the girls. St Augustine (94) and Tombstone (119) followed.

Thatcher's Lily Richardson (19:26.6) won the championship while Andrea Castaneda of San Manuel took third (20:22.9).

Finally, Kai Morfin of The Gregory School won the boy's title (16:34.5). Tanque Verde's Erik Evans (16:41.0) came in second while Austin Joye of Tombstone took third (16:55.1).

Pusch Ridge (74) won the boy's championship. Bisbee (76) took second and Thatcher (84) came in third place.

The state meet will be held Saturday. Nov. 7 at the Cave Creek Golf Course in Phoenix.
