If a team is going to win a state title it may as well do it in spectacular fashion. That's how Greeenway High picked up its first-ever girls volleyball title Saturday night in the Division III title match at Prescott Valley Event Center.

Playing some of its best volleyball of the season for the most part and catching Chandler Prep on an off night, the Demons pulled off a convincing sweep of the Titans by scores of 25-20, 25-13 and 25-17.

Dominating play in every phase, Greenway capped its season with a 40-1 record. The Demons led every set at one point or another by at least nine points. The victory was a nice going away present for senior outside hitter Sadie Anderson and senior outside/middle Julisa Carrizosa. Anderson, a three-year starter leaves with a state title and Carrizosa departs with two -- one previously obtained while playing for Northwest Christian two years ago.

"The whole team played at a high level tonight," Greenway coach Sarah Peterson said. "We have so many weapons, and no weak positions. It's fun to win as much as we did, but it's even better with this group and how they love to play together. They're laughing and joking a lot and are fun to watch. They play as a team."

Carrizosa and Anderson collected  eight kills and seven kils, respectively, and that wasn't high for the  team. junior Rheanna Earley led with 10 and three others also tacked on a kill or two. The first set was tight early with a tie at 7-7. At that point Earley served eight consecutive points, inclduing two aces. Anderson put down three of her five kills in the set during the run.

The second set had Chandler Prep i(36-7) in a hole swiftly. Greenway opened up a 9-0 lead with Chandler Prep swinging poorly -- four hitting errors. It didn't get much better, The Titans had five more hitting errors before the set mercifully ended.

"The unforced errors just killed us," Chandler Prep coach Sarah Baughman said. "Without them we had hope, with them no hope. We were able to chip away a couple times, but we were behind by too much. They played well, but we didn't help ourselves. We beat ourselves."

Chandler Prep earned its spot in the final earlier Saturday outlasting Section 8 rival Horizon Honors in a five set semi, 22-25, 25-16, 22-25, 25-19 and 15-12. Chandler Prep lost twice during the season to Horizon Honors in matches that went the distance. Chandler Prep also was taken to five sets Friday night to advance to the semis by Snowflake. Those  matches ahead of facing Greenway didn't help matters. Junior hitter Taylor Sheppy paced Chandler Prep's struggling attack with nine kills. For the match the Titans had 17 hitting errors and way too many net violations.

Greenway advanced to the finals earlier Saturday wth a 25-17, 27-25, 22-25, 25-16 win over Valley Christian. Greenway's victory in the second set was the key as the Demons faced set point down 24-17 and ran off seven successive points to fend off the Trojans'  bid at that point to even the match.
