MaxPreps/WBCA Players of the Week for Week 5: Dec 28 - January 3, 2016

ATLANTA (January 4, 2016) – The WBCA has announced the winners of its High School Players of the Week presented by MaxPreps for the week ending Sunday, Jan. 3.

In its inaugural year the WBCA High School Player of the Week is presented to a deserving student-athlete who demonstrated outstanding play throughout the week. Head coaches submit nominations each week and the WBCA selects the individual based on stats that were submitted.

The winners are:

Region 1
Meghan Foley, a 5-foot-4 senior from Mystic Valley Regional High School in Malden, Massachusetts, averaged 30.0 points, 16.7 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 3.3 steals on the week, while the Eagles remain undefeated at 6-0. On Dec. 29, Foley posted her first double-double of the season with a season high 36 points and 11 rebounds as Mystic Valley Regional beat Greater Lowell Tech 68-61.

Region 2
Cali Konek, from Imani Christian Academy (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) earned her second straight MaxPreps/WBCA Player of the Week award after helping lead the Saints to two wins. The 5-foot-5 freshman posted 47.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.5 steals for the week. Konek is shooting 40 percent from beyond the arch and 88 percent from the free throw line.

Region 3
Jo Snow, a 5-foot-3 sophomore from Mount Airy High School (Mount Airy, North Carolina), guided the Granite Bears to a 3-1 record on the week, while improving to 11-2 on the season. The point guard recorded 24.8 points, 3.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals in the four games. She posted a season best 31 points against Forbush High School on Dec. 30.

Region 4
Morgan Sherwood, from Charleston High School (Charleston, Illinois), led the Trojans to a perfect 5-0 record for the week, while Charleston remains undefeated on the season at 15-0. The 5-foot-10 senior concluded the week averaging 23.6 points, 9.4 rebounds, 3.2 steals, 2.4 blocks and 2.2 rebounds. Sherwood was a perfect 10-for-10 from the charity stripe in the Trojans' 72-43 victory against Rantoul.

Region 5
Payton Brotzki, a 5-foot-11 sophomore from Platteview High School in Springfield, Nebraska, helped the Trojans remain perfect at 8-0 following three wins. Brotzki garnered 29.3 points, 3.7 steals, 3.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists. In the Trojans' 59-48 win against Plattsmouth High School on Dec. 29, Brotzki finished with a season high 33 points.

Region 6
Tontyana Sanders, from Connally High School in Waco, Texas, propelled the Cadets to 25-1 on the season after winning six games on the week. The 5-foot-11 junior concluded the week averaging 29.2 points, 20.3 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 2.3 blocks. Sanders, a captain, has earned a double-double in each of the Cadets' 26 games this season.

Region 7

Makenna Merrell, a 5-foot-7 senior from Duncan High School (Duncan, Arizona), helped lead the Wildkats to a 2-2 week, while improving to 8-5 on the season. Merrell averaged 20.0 points and was a perfect eight-for-eight from the free throw line in the Wildkats' 61-33 win against American Leadership Academy.

Region 8
Destiny Littleton, a 5-foot-9 junior from Bishop's High School in La Jolla, California, has earned her third MaxPreps/WBCA Player of the Week award for the year. The Knights are 15-1 overall and went 3-1 on the week under Littleton's guidance. Littleton completed the week averaging 31.3 points, 10.0 rebounds, 5.3 steals, 2.3 rebounds and 1.8 blocks. In the Knights' 59-45 win against Los Alamitos on Jan. 2, Littleton collected her second triple-double of the season with 19 points, 12 rebounds and 10 steals.

Region 9
Brittany Davis, from Greenville High School (Greenville, Georgia), helped lead the Patriots to a 2-1 week, while improving to 7-4 overall. The 5-foot-9 sophomore ended the week averaging 31.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.7 steals, 2.0 assists and 1.7 blocks. Against Central High School, Davis posted her second double-double of the season – 29 points and a season best 12 steals – as the Patriots went on to win 58-39.
