Baseball, softball invitationals set for spring break week

Most schools in the East Valley enjoy a week or two break beginning Saturday and that means another onslaught of baseball and softball invitationals.

The annual Mesquite-Gilbert Baseball Invitational starts things rolling on Saturday  March 12 and continues through Thursday March 17 at Mesquite and Gilbert high schools. Participating schools are Basha, Desert Vista, Gilbert, McClintock, Mesquite, Mountain Pointe, Mountain View, Red Mountain, Skyline and Westview. Games are set at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. each day at Gilbert and 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. each day at Mesquite.

Starting a couple days late on Monday March 14 is the annual Highland Triple Play Classic baeball tournament, which continues through March 17 at Highland High. Competing in the Triple Play are: Moore, Okla.; Apache Junction, Desert Ridge, Dobson, Highland, Higley, John Paul II, Texas; Mesa, Perry and Williams Field.

Marcos de Niza and Corona del Sol high schools team up to host the Marcos de Niza-Corona del Sol Softball Invitational Saturday March 12 through Wednesday March 16.

Mountain Pointe, Desert Ridge, Chaparral, McClintock, Perry and Corona del Sol compete at Corona with games  Saturday, Monday and Tuesday at  10 a..m.,  noon and 2 p.m. Tempe, Desert Mountain, Hamilton, Xavier, Casa Grande and Marcos de Niza  compete the same days and times at Marcos de Niza. The final day of the tournament (March 16) is placement games, all at Marcos de Niza. Games are at 10, noon and 2 p.m. The championship game is at 2 p.m.
