MaxPreps/WBCA Players of the Week for Week 14: February 29 - March 6, 2016

Shadeen Samuels of Ossining (NY) has her team in the NYSPHSAA Class AA Final Four this weekend after averaging 30 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.0 steals in two previous playoff games.

ATLANTA (March 7, 2016) – The WBCA has announced its High School Players of the Week presented by MaxPreps for the week ending Sunday, March 6.

In its inaugural year the WBCA High School Player of the Week is presented to a deserving student-athlete who demonstrated outstanding play throughout the week. Head coaches submit nominations each week and the WBCA selects the individual based on stats that were submitted.

Region 1
Katherine Surrette, a 5-foot-10 junior from University Park High School in Worcester, Massachusetts, completed the week with 34 points, 11 rebounds, five steals, five blocks and two assists, as the team only had one game. The 34 points is a season high for the captain.

Region 2

Shadeen Samuels, a 6-foot senior from Ossining High School (Ossining, New York), guided the team to two wins to improve to 24-2 on the season. Samuels averaged 30.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.0 steals. She posted a double-double in an 86-67 win against Binghamton High School on March 1, recording 37 points and grabbing 10 boards.

Region 3
ANISSA RIVERA, a 6-foot freshman from Forestville High School (Forestville, Maryland), led the Knights to three wins to improve to 23-2 overall. During the week Rivera averaged 24.3 points, 9.0 rebounds, 5.0 blocks, 3.0 assists and 3.0 steals. She posted a season-best seven blocks against Chesapeake High School on March 1 in a 117-12 win.

Region 4
Morgan Villemure, a 6-foot-1 senior from Flat Rock High School (Flat Rock, Michigan), propelled the Rams to 18-5 on the season following three wins. She concluded the week averaging 21.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 3.0 steals and 1.0 blocks. Villemure finished with a season-best nine assists in a 68-16 win against Summit Academy North on March 2.

Region 5

Shandra Farmer, a 5-foot-3 senior from St. Cecilia High School in Hastings, Nebraska, finished the week 2-1 to move to 20-6 overall. Farmer notched 19.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 3.0 steals in the three games for the Bluehawks.

Region 6
Savannah Jones, a 6-foot senior from St. Martin High School in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, has helped the Yellowjackets win their last 15 contests to improve to 28-2 overall. In the Yellowjackets' lone game for the week, Jones posted 36 points, seven rebounds and three assists, as St. Martin won 67-56 over Columbus High School. The 36 points is a season high for Jones.

Region 7
Maya Banks, a 6-foot-3 junior from Hamilton High School in Chandler, Arizona, led the Huskies to a 56-46 win against Mesquite High School on Feb. 29. Hamilton is 26-4 following the win. Banks finished the game with 18 points, 14 rebounds, two assists, two steals and one blocked shot. During each of the last five games Banks has earned a double-double.

Region 8
Dijonai Carrington, a 6-foot senior from Horizon Christian Academy in San Diego, California, notched 45 points, 19 rebounds, three assists, two steals and blocked one shot in the Panthers only game of the week. The 45 points is a season high for Carrington.

Region 9
Whitney Creech, a 5-foot-9 senior from Jenkins High School (Jenkins, Kentucky), earned her fourth MaxPreps/WBCA Player of the Week honor on the season. The Cavaliers were 2-1 on the week with Creech averaging 52.7 points, 10.7 rebounds, 2.7 steals, 2.7 blocks and 2.3 assists. Creech is averaging 50.3 points on the season.
