MaxPreps/USA Baseball Players of the Week for March 14-March 20, 2016

Ashton Atkinson of Ash Fork (Ariz.) was named USA Baseball/MaxPreps Player of the Week from the Southwest Region.

DURHAM, N.C. -- USA Baseball and MaxPreps announced on Monday, the MaxPreps USA Baseball Pitcher and Player of the Week Award winners for the week of March 14, 2016, bringing national recognition to the top-performing high school athletes in the country.

Representing eight national regions, -- Great Lakes, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, Northeast, Northwest, Southeast, Southwest and West -- players are selected based upon stats that are submitted to MaxPreps.com by coaches and team administrators. For players to be nominated each week, their coach must enter the athlete's game stats into MaxPreps by Sunday evening. High school coaches may obtain an access code to enter stats for their teams at maxpreps.com/cl.

Due to unforeseen weather conditions and season start dates, the Northeast Region do not have a player or pitcher of the week for this week.

The winners for MaxPreps USA Baseball Player of the Week Award are as follows:

Great Lakes
Pitcher of the Week: Tristan Weaver struck out 21 batters in eight innings for Auburn High School (Auburn, Ill.) to receive the Great Lakes USA Baseball MaxPreps Pitcher of the Week award. Weaver gave up no-hits and no walks in his eight innings of work and picked up two victories.

Player of the Week: Cayden Muench hit .778 with two home runs for Auburn High School (Auburn, Ill.) to be named the Great Lakes USA Baseball MaxPreps Player of the Week. Muench, a sophomore, went 7-for-9 at the plate with four RBIs and held an on-base percentage of .818.

Mid-Atlantic
Pitcher of the Week: Andrew Harmody struck out 10 batters over eight innings for Pinecrest High School (Southern Pines, N.C.) to earn Mid-Atlantic USA Baseball MaxPreps Pitcher of the Week. Harmody surrendered just one hit and one walk and picked up the victory.

Player of the Week: Harold Cortijo went 12-for-15 at the plate for Riverdale Baptist School (Upper Marlboro, Md.) with seven RBIs to garner Mid-Atlantic USA Baseball MaxPreps Player of the Week honors. Cortijo collected seven RBIs and hit two home runs with a slugging percentage of 1.266.

Midwest
Pitcher of the Week: Parker Sweet struck out nine batters in six innings for Atkins High School (Atkins, Ark.) to earn Midwest USA Baseball MaxPreps Pitcher of the Week. Sweet, a sophomore, gave up just one hit in the victory.

Player of the Week: Christian Ewing picked up nine RBIs in just eight at-bats for Dover High School (Dover, Ark.) to be named the Midwest USA Baseball MaxPreps Player of the Week. Ewing scored four runs, collected six hits and hit two home runs for a slugging percentage of 1.750.

Northwest
Pitcher of the Week: Matt Maynard pitched a complete-game no-hitter for Catlin Gabel School (Portland, Ore.) to earn the Northwest USA Baseball MaxPreps Pitcher of the Week award. Maynard struck out 12 batters and walked two in the win.

Player of the Week: Jaden Miller hit three home runs in seven at-bats for Paonia High School (Paonia, Colo.) to receive Northwest USA Baseball MaxPreps Player of the Week honors. Miller, a sophomore, went 6-for-7 at the plate, scored eight runs, and tallied six RBIs.

Southeast
Pitcher of the Week: Dylan Norrell gave up only one hit in seven innings for Russell County High School (Seale, Ala.) to be awarded the Southest USA Baseball MaxPreps Pitcher of the Week. Norrell, a freshman, struck out 12 batters for the win.

Player of the Week: Bobby Stewart scored 12 runs and hit .923 (12-for-13) for Naples High School (Naples, Fla.) for Southeast USA Baseball MaxPreps Player of the Week honors. Stewart collected 10 RBIs and hit two home runs on the week.

Southwest
Pitcher of the Week: Chet Jones struck out 19 batters in a complete-gave no-hitter for Kirbyville High School (Kirbyville, Texas) to earn the Southwest USA Baseball MaxPreps Pitcher of the Week award. Jones faced just three batters over the minimum and surrendered no walks.

Player of the Week: Ashton Atkinson tallied 25 RBIs and hit five home runs for Ash Fork High School (Ash Fork, Ariz.) to be named the Southwest USA Baseball MaxPreps Player of the Week. Atkinson went 14-for-17 at the plate, scored 14 runs, an walked three times to hold a slugging percentage of 2.235.

West
Pitcher of the Week: Daniel Cardenas struck out nine batters in six innings for Quartz Hill High School (Lancaster, Calif.) to be named the West USA Baseball MaxPreps Pitcher of the Week. Cardenas gave up only two hits and one walk in the victory.

Player of the Week: Kyle Whitted hit .917 with nine RBIs for Elko High School (Elko, Nev.) to earn the West USA Baseball MaxPreps Player of the Week award. Whitted went 11-for-12 at the plate with six runs scored, two home runs, and two walks for an on-base percentage of .933.
