Pinnacle's Jason Nelson pitched six strong innings and Trevor Crain and Jason Holmes delivered RBI on Wednesday afternoon as the Pioneers beat Horizon, 5-2, in the Division I regular-season final for both teams at Pinnacle.

Pinnacle scored twice in the second and three times in the fourth in buidling a 5-1 lead. Nelson allowed four hits, two walks and struck out seven. Horizon entered the game No. 9 in the power-rankings. The Huskies needed a win to have a shot at the top 8 and first-round bye at state. Pinnacle, No. 17 in the latest rankings, hopes to move up a spot or two which would secure it a first-round, home game at state.

BASHA 9, MOUNTAIN POINTE 4: Michael Goodrich drove in the tie-breaking run in the third inning and another RBI in the fifth a the No. 1 Bears pulled away in the middle innings to defeate the host Pride.

Michael Perzan and Kyle Wullenweber combined for the victory on the mound for Basha. Skylar Dorn, Gage Workman and Casey Legumina added insurance RBI in the sixth to extend a 5-4 lead to 9-4. Mountain Pointe, ranked No. 8 at the start of the day,  hopes to hang on to that spot and get a first-round bye. Basha finished 17-1 in power-ranking games. The Bears have been able the last few weeks to rest and rehab pitchers Johnny Morell and Legumina. Both will be ready to pitch at state. Jack Schneider has been the bull on the mound all season along with the recent help from Perzan and Wullenweber.

CHAPARRAL 10, DESERT RIDGE 7: The Firebirds outslugged the Jaguars at Chaparral. Chaparral, No.14 in the power rankings assured itself a first-round home game with the win. Desert Ridge, No. 23, will have to wait for its fate to at the release of the D-I brackets on Thursday afternoon from the AIA office.

BOULDER CREEK 12, DEER VALLEY 0: The Jaguars blanked the visiting Skyhawks to finish the season 9-10 in power-ranking games. Boulder Creek rested at No. 18 in the power-rankings Wednesday and needed to move up to at least to No. 16 for an opening-round home game.

CAMPO VERDE 12, CHANDLER 2 (5 innings): The Coyotes scored seven runs in the fourth inning and went on to run-rule the Wolves at Campo Verde. Jadon Solomon (3 RBI) and Liam Cota, Andrew Gin and Zach Bain (2 RBI apiece) were Campo's run-producers. Campo Verde, No. 7 in the power-rankings, should be in line to hold on to a first-round bye since No. 8 Mountain Pointe and No. 9 Horizon lost on Wednesday.

SANDRA DAY O'CONNOR 11, MILLENNIUM 2: The Eagles took care of the Tigers easily at Millennium. O'Connor, No. 4 to start the day, could move up as high as No. 2 in the final power-rankings as they barely trailed idle Perry and Corona in Wednesday's rankings.
