Ian Sanger tossed a complete-game, two-hitter on Saturday to lead No. 10 Horizon to a 2-1 victory over No. 23 Desert Ridge in the first round of the Division I state baseball tournament at Horizon HS.

Evan Williams and Nick Berger drove in runs in the first inning on ground outs and those were enough to advance Horizon to the second round on Tuesday at No. 7 Campo Verde.

#9 SKYLINE 7, #24 MESA MTN. VIEW 4:  The Coyotes built a 5-0 lead in the first three innings and hung on to edge the Toros at HoHoKam Stadium. Boyd Vanderkooi pitched five-plus innings and got the win with relief help from Jacob Stark. Six Skyline players drove in a run - Jan Rollen, Ian Raidy, Bodey Delmar, Bobby Meza, Walker Pattyson and Tyler Jackson. Sean Rimmer had a two-run triple for Mountain View. Skyline visits Mountain Pointe in the second round.

#11 QUEEN CREEK 7, #22 DESERT MOUNTAIN 3: Jesse Schmidt pitched five strong innings and fanned eight and the Bulldogs scored three times each in the fourth and fifth innings to eliminate the Wolves at Queen Creek. Frank Dickson took the loss for Desert Mountain, allowing all of Queen Creek's runs, but only three earned. Queen Creek advances to play Hamilton in the second round.

#12 SUNRISE MOUNTAIN 9, #21 CHANDLER 2: Josh Stockton and Tyler Hill had key hits in six-run rally in the fifth inning to help the Mustangs knock off the Wolves at Sunrise Mountain. Sunrise Mountain held a 3-2 lead prior to the big rally. Stockton and Hill drove in two runs apiece. Sunrise Mountain visits Mountain Ridge in the second round.

#20 DESERT VISTA 12, #13 RED MOUNTAIN 8: The Thunder coughed up a 4-0 lead and rallied in the final two innings to overtake the Mountain Lions at Red Mountain. Desert Vista advances to the second round on Tuesday and visits Sandra Day O'Connor.

#14 CHAPARRAL 6, #19 SUNNYSLOPE 5: The Firebirds scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to tie and prevailed in the eighth on a throwing error in edging the Vikings at Chaparral. Blake Flint picked up the win with three scoreless innings of relief. Chaparral visits Corona del Sol in the second round.

# 18 CENTENNIAL 4, #15 PINNACLE 1: Nick McAdams doubled in two runs in the fourth inning to start the scoring and Aaron Forest went the distance scattering six hits as the Coyotes topped the Pioneers at Pinnacle. Centennial moves on to face Perry in the second round.

#16 BROPHY PREP 5, #17 BOULDER CREEK 2: The Broncos rallied from a 2-1 deficit with four runs in the bottom of the fifth to defeat the Jaguars at Brophy. Jacob Talamante tied the game with an RBI and Hunter Parks gave the Broncos the lead with a single. Teo Fritzke capped the inning with a two-run double.Jeff Rula got the win with six strong innings. Brophy advances to face top-seed Basha on Tuesday.

DIVISION II

#16 VALLEY VISTA 8, #17 ARCADIA 6: Casey Downs had two hits and 3 RBI and Tyler Smith two hits and 2 RBI to lead the Vipers to a win over the Titans at Valley Vista. Nick Dicarlo had four hits and 3 RBI and Sam Huff popped a three-run homer for Arcadia. Valley Vista moves on to face Thunderbird in the second round.

#13 RAYMOND KELLIS 6, #13 WILLIAMS FIELD 2: Adrian Salazar  and Jordan Flores had two hits apiece and an RBI to lead the Cougars past the Blackhawks at Kellis HS. One of Flores' hits was a home run. Kellis moves on to face Paradise Valley in the second round.

#11 CACTUS SHADOWS 9, #22 CIENEGA 3: Ben Rodenburg, Scott Mehan and Tanner Knoop all homered to lead the Falcons past the Bobcats at Cactus Shadows. Cactus Shadows moves on to play Canyon del Oro in the second round.VALLEY VISTA -ARCADIA

#15 PRESCOTT 8, #18 MCCLINTOCK 7: Cole Kelley singled in the tying run and Joey Christopherson's bunt single plated the game-winner in the bottom of the seventh rallying the Badgers to a win over the Chargers at Prescott. Prescott advances to play Apollo in the second round.

 #12 BRADSHAW MTN. 8, # 21 BUENA 2: The Bears broke out to a 5-0 lead after two innings and coasted past the Colts at Bradshaw Mountain. Bobby Simonds, Steven Hernandez, Cohen Heckethorn and Gunner Bundrick combined for nine of Bradshaw's 10 hits in the 1-4 spots in the lineuip. Bradshaw Mountain travels to Greenway in the second round.

 #9 TUCSON 2, #24 NOTRE DAME 1: Fabian Ferreira doubled home the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the 11th inning to give the Badgers the win over the Saints at Tucson High. Jose Contreras got the win for Tucson. He pitcherd all 11 innings, scattered seven hits, walked one and fanned 12. Tucson advances to play Verrado in the second round.
