D-I/D-II softball winner's bracket games from May 10

Kori Gahn's RBI single in the bottom of the seventh capped a nearly game-long rally Tuesday night and lifted No. 2 Pinnacle to a 5-4 win over pesky No. 11 seed Chandler at Rose Mofford Softball Complex.

Jackie Kelley, who led Pinnacle with three hits,  singled to open the bottom of the seventh  and was sacrificed to second by Marissa Schuld. A single by Jessica Mabrey sent Kelley to third. Gahn then delivered the game-winner off Chandler starter Gabby Baker. Gahn was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI.

CC Cook picked up th win with five innings of stellar relief. She allowed one hit, no walks or runs and struck out eight. She relieved Schuld, who started and pitched for the first time in a month. Schuld allowed four runs (one earned) in two innings and left with the Pioneers trailing 4-1. Kate Gross and Rachel Brown drove in runs for Chandler.

Pinnacle advances to face the tournament's only other unbeaten team, No. 3 Hamilton, on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Rose Mofford. Chandler plays again Wednesday (May 11) against defending champ and No. 4 Sandra Day O'Connor in another elimination game at 6:30 at Rose Mofford.

HAMILTON 5, DESERT VISTA 1: Macy Simmons hit a two-run homer in the second inning and the No. 5 Huskies upended the top-seeded Thunder at Rose Mofford Softball Complex. Desert Vista pulled within 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single by Brooke Hughes, but Hamilton tallied three times in the sixth for a comfortable lead it took to the finish. Karlee Arnold and Taylor Gindlesperger drove in runs in the sixth inning for Hamilton.

Madison Seigworth pitched a five-hitter and struck out nine in going the distance for Hamilton .Mara Kemmer took the loss for Desert Vista.  Desert Vista plays again Wednesdy (May 11) against No. 7 Campo Verde in an elimination game at 6:30 at Rose Mofford.

D-II

IRONWOOD RIDGE 12, SAHUARO 0: Mandy Lorenson tossed a four-hit shutout and Isabel Pacho and Alexis Orth homered as the No. 2 Nighthawks swamped the No. 3 Cougars in five innings. Ironwood Ridge faces the tournament's only other undefeated team, No. 4 Cactus, on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Rose Mofford. Sahuaro plays again Wednesday (May 11) in an elimination game against No. 5 Arcadia at 6:30 p.m. at Rose Mofford.

Pacho knocked in four runs with a pair of homers. Reina Bondi added a couple of hits and 3 RBI. Lorenson didn't walk a batter and struck out five. Cactus advancedin the winner's bracket by beating Tucson High, 6-2. Tucson plays again on Wednesday (May 11) against No. 6 Salpointe in an elimination game at 6:30 p.m. at Amphitheater HS.
