Michael Goodrich and his Basha teammates endured a crummy ending to a successful Division I baseball season earlier this month. The Bears bowed out quickly as the top-seed at state. Goodrich got another chance to don the uniform Saturday morning and made the most of it.

Goodrich, the Bears' catcher this season, finished 2 for 2 and drove in two runs helping jump start the East squad to an 11-1 victory over the West in the annual AZBCA Coaches Association Academic All-Star Game at Goodyear Ballpark.

Goodrich secured the East's first hit of the game with a leadoff double in the second inning. Goodrich's spot in the order scored the first run in the second and he tacked on a two-run single in the third to put the East in control.

The 3-0 lead after three was just the beginning for the East as it added three runs in the fourth after the West pulled within 3-1 in the top of the frame on an RBi single by Cesar Chavez's Gabriel Juarez. If there was any doubt as to the outcome, the East tallied five more times in the sixth. The East outhit the West 13-5.

Earning the victory for the East was Mountain Pointe left-hander Gen Ito. Ito allowed one hit and fanned one in two scoreless innings. Four more pitchers followed Ito. Adding scoreless innings of work were Paradise Valley's Alex Farrell, Vista Grande's Jaime Mejia and Paradise Valley's Jack Giese.

Giese added two a pair of RBI singles late in the game and Desert Mountain's Nicholas Iacovo checked in with two hits and an RBI after entering the game in the fourth inning. They along with Goodrich were East players with two hits.
