There was plenty of hitting to go around for the South team in Saturday's AZBCA D-4/5 all-star game at Goodyear Ballpark.

St. Augustine catcher Ariel Jaime was one of many swinging a poten bat. But Jaime was even better on defense. He helped his pitchers out by gunning down three base stealers in his 4 innings behind the plate as the South pummeled the North, 20-7.

The South cranked out 16 hits, took advantage of nine walks, two hit batters and nine errors by the North. The South blew open a close game after five innings with a six-run sixth and seven-run seventh. Jaime was in the middle of all of it.

He initiated the sixth-inning rally by getting hit with a pitch and capped it with a single. Jaime added a two-run double to finish off the seventh-inning outburst.

Just before and then during his offensive heroics, Jaime used his right arm to keep the North off the scoreboard. Jaime threw out Joseph Holguin at second to end the fifth with the South holding its 2-0 lead. After the lead grew to 8-0 in the top of the inning, the North continued to challenge Jaime. He gunned down Ash Fork's Ashten Atkinson after a one-out single in the sixth. The final out of the sixth saw Jaime throw out a runner at third -- an ill-fated attempt for a team down 8-0.

Twelve players had a hit for the South led by Desert Christian'sJacob Rosson's three hits and two hits each for Jaime and Dysart's Mario Chavira. Joy Christian's Isaiah Leach had two RBI as did Rosson, Jaime , San Miguel's Bairont Quintero and Tanque Verde's Jack Wood.

The North trailed 20-1 heading to the bottom of the ninth and sent 10 batters to the plate in making a small comeback. Coolidge's Tommy  Rico delivered a two-run single in the ninth. Atkinson and Many Farms Brian Jones also had RBI's in the ninth for the North.
