Are Chandler schools, Brophy-Xavier mocking foes?

Now that AIA member schools are once again classified via conferences and regions rather than divisions and sections, it may be easier to figure out who is a member of what region.

Especially when it comes to one of the seven 6A conference regions -- the Premier Region. It sticks out among the others, distancing itself and thensome from the region names of the recent past the conference's other regions stuck with -- East Valley, Central, Southwest, Desert Valley, Metro, Southern.

No the folks housed in the Premier Region are either having fun with the rest of the conference or just want to remind everyone of their prowess. Funny to a degree and arrogant to a point at the same time.

The Premier Region. Wouldn't be hard to guess the schools tucked into that one if youve accustomed to the big-school landscape in the state very long. It's the four full-bore Chandler traditiional high schools -- Chandler High, Hamilton, Basha and Perry plus Brophy Prep and Xavier Prep. Lots of winning going on there. Those schools combined to win 10 of the 20 big-school titles last season and were runners-up in seven.

The definition of premier is: first in order, importance or position; leading. It fits. But was the region christened as a playful taunt or an out-and-out gloat? I have my opinion. I'm sure you have yours. A little food for light-thinking on a yet another scorching day.
