Chandler hosts House of Payne girls VB Invite Sept. 2-3

The annual House of Payne Girls Volleyball Tournament beckons Friday Sept. 2 and Saturday Sept. 3 at Chandler High and Arizona College Prep.

Competition begins Friday at 10 a.m. with five pools of four teams each. Matches will run until late afternoon. The top eight teams (five pool winners and next best three teams) qualify for Saturday's Gold Bracket. The rest will be divided among Silver and Bronze brackets.

Cross-pool play starts Saturday at 8 am. with the gold, silver and bronze bracket semis finishing off the tourney late in the afternoon starting at approximately 2 p.m. 

Teams entered and pool assignments for Friday: Pool A -- Perry, Red Mountain, Arcadia and Castell; Pool  B - Salpointe, Chandler, Desert Ridge, Dobson; Pool C -- Valley Christian, Queen Creek, Marana Mtn. View, La Joya; Pool D -- Seton, Mesa Mtn. View, Canyon del Oro, Scottsdale Christian; Pool E -- Mesa, Highland, Williams Field and Arizona College Prep.

CROSS COUNTRY

An early start Saturday morning brings the annual Chandler Invitational cross country meet at Tumbleweed Park in Chandler. Forty-five schools are signed up for the event. The format is different than most with races by class (year in school) beginning with freshmen at 7:30, sophomores at 8:10, juniors at 8:45 and seniors at 9:15. Scoring is adding the place of each school's top runner in the four races (e.g. your school wins each race it's total is four points). Last year's champions were Perry boys and Chandler girls.
