1A's NFL Yet gives 3A's Yuma Catholic a scare

NFL Yet almost pulled off quite a feat after seven of its 10 players fouled out in a recent game.

The 1A Conference team led 3A’s Yuma Catholic, a defending state champ, by 16 points with about four minutes remaining in their boys basketball game on Thursday. But that’s when it really got interesting.

NFL Yet played the final minutes of regulation with only five players, including a female player, a junior. Yuma Catholic eventually tied the game to send it to overtime, when two more NFL Yet players fouled out.

Still, despite playing with just only two freshmen and the junior on the floor, NFL Yet led by three points with 10 seconds left to play in overtime.  But Yuma Catholic eventually escaped with a 86-84 home victory.

“Our players played their heart out,” said NFL Yet coach Albert Ramirez in an email that was sent to azpreps365.com. “We proved we can compete.”
