AIA board selects 5 candidates to interview for director post

The Arizona Interscholastic Association’s executive board members selected five people they will interview for the AIA’s executive director job.

The current executive director, Dr. Harold Slemmer, the longest serving director in the 104-year history of the AIA, is retiring after the current school year. The five candidates are:

Current AIA assistant executive director David Hines, Tempe Union assistant superintendent for district operations Dr. Anna Battle, Cactus Shadows principal Dr. Steve Bebee, coordinator of athletics and business operations at Peoria Unified School District Mike Sivertson, and Eddie Bonine, the current Louisiana High School Athletic Association executive director.

The candidates will be interviewed on March 1, and the new AIA executive director will be introduced on March 20 during the AIA’s executive board meeting.

The names of the candidates were announced during Tuesday’s board meeting.
