6A softball roundup

Pinnacle is seeing some of the better hitting teams in 6A in its first two state tournament games, but it doesn't seem to matter with the pitching the Pioneers feature night in and night out.

No. 1 Pinnacle got a three-run homer in the fifth inning from Kris Slayton and two-hit pitching from Marissa Schuld in defeating No. 5  Perry, 5-1, in a 6A winner's bracket game at Rose Mofford Sports Complex.

Schuld ran her season record to 21-0. Schuld walked two and struck out 10 and collected an RBI getting hit by a pitch in the third inning. Nicole Amodio added the other RBI with a fourth-inning sacrifice fly. Pinnacle (33-1) awaits the winner of Perry and Desert Vista on Tuesday May 9 at 6:30 at Rose Mofford. Pinnacle next plays on Thursday May 11 at Rose Mofford.

# 7 Hamilton vs. #3 Tucson: Abby Andersen allowed three hits and struck out 10 and the Huskies scored all their runs in the final three innings to defeat the Badgers in a winner's bracket game.

Ali Ashner cranked out four htis, including a two-run double to break a 0-0 tie in the fifth. Bella Loomis added a two-run homer in a five-run seventh. Taylor Gindlesperger went  2-for-4 with 2 RBI. Tucson faces Horizon in an elimination game on Tuesday May 9 at 6:30 at Rose Moffford.

#15 Horizon 3,  # 6 Desert Ridge 2: Morgan Leinstock pitched a four-hitter and hit a two-run homer helping the Huskies knock off and eliminate the Jaguars. Makenna Woods also homered for Horizon -- a solo shot in the sixth inning that proved to be the difference. Shaylee Ackerman and Alyssa Lyon drove in runs for Desert Ridge. Ackerman struck out 14 batters in taking the loss.

#8 Desert Vista 17, #4 Cibola 4: The Thunder brought the Raiders'  season crashing down with a lopsided win in an elimination game.

Desert Vista collected 17 hits in the five-inning game. Tia Craig was 4-4 with four RBI, Kaylee Dietrich, Kiara Kennedy and Hailey Kaddatz had three hits each. Jackie Traughber worked all five innings for the win and added three RBI.
