Desert Vista looks for fourth straight win against Dobson

Desert Vista can win its fourth straight game in Friday's nonconference matchup against Dobson.

But that wasn't the focus during the week.

“Our drive this week was more focused on going all out on the field to play the best game we can play,” coach Dan Hinds said. “I challenged every single guy to play his best and go all out during practices this week. The wins will come after that.”

Challenge met, said Caleb Humphrey.

“It has been a good week of practice,” said the linebacker. “We have been solid all week. I know some days it is easy to start off slow and be lazy when it comes to some drills but our coaches and teammates hold each other accountable.”

The chemistry between coaches and players is what teams strive to create. It builds off the momentum each week’s game produces.

Senior Derek Kline said a fourth straight win would give Desert Vista (3-1) momentum going into the back half of the season. But Hinds wants his team to overlook the numbers.

“You can’t focus on improving your record without first focusing on playing the game at hand. What does it take to win each week? You have to make every practice the best practice. We’ve had a really good week of practice leading up to this so we will see what we can translate,”  Hinds said.

Kline said defense is a key against Dobson (3-1).

“Dobson has some weaknesses we can expose with our strengths on defense especially. But it will be a really good matchup for us this week,” said Kline. “The main thing we really want to focus on this week is to clean things up. Clean up the mental mistakes, missed assignments, things like jumping off sides.”
