6A CONFERENCE

Sunnyside (1-6, 0-1) at RINCON/UNIVERSITY (3-4, 0-0)

This is a playoff game for Rincon. If the Rangers win this game then it will force a winner-take-all game against Tucson the following week. Under that scenario, the winner from the Tucson Sub-Region would face the winner of the Yuma Sub-Region for the 6A Southern Region title.

Kofa (2-4, 0-0) is traveling to Cibola (2-5, 0-0) this Friday to settle the Yuma Sub-Region order. Tucson is currently ranked 17 in the 6A Conference, Kofa is 29, Cibola is 30, Rincon is 31 and Sunnyside is 33. The rankings will be updated on Tuesday morning but the Badgers are the only team near the top 16 which means the region winner might get the only state playoff bid from the region.

If Sunnyside beats Rincon then Tucson wins the sub-region due to better conference record.

Tucson (3-4, 1-0) at 5A IRONWOOD RIDGE (5-2, 1-1)

A non-region game for both teams but an important power-point game and risky for Ironwood Ridge.

5A CONFERENCE

CIENEGA (7-0, 1-0) at Buena (4-3, 0-2)

Buena flirted with the playoffs this year but the Colts broke a 22-game losing, making this year their most successful campaign since current Cholla coach Ryan Scherling left the program in 2013. If the Colts get the upset, however, they will be right back in the playoff picture.

Sahuaro (3-4, 1-1) at MOUNTAIN VIEW (6-1, 2-0)

The Cougars need to pull the upset to stay in the playoff race but Mountain View is at home and on a roll. Mountain View hasn’t lost to Sahuaro since 1999. That’s six wins in a row but the two teams have only played once since 2004. Mountain View beat Sahuaro 35-28 last year.

MARANA (5-2, 2-0) at Poston Butte (4-3, 1-0)

This is a playoff game for Poston Butte but expect Marana to come home with another victory. If Marana wins and Desert View loses to Flowing Wells, then the Tigers will take the 5A Sonoran title.

DESERT VIEW (3-4, 0-2) at Flowing Wells (1-6, 0-2)

The Caballeros can play spoiler and give the 5A Sonoran Region title to Marana as mentioned above. The Jaguars need to win out and hope for some help.

4A CONFERENCE

Catalina Foothills (6-2, 2-0) BYE WEEK

Nogales (2-5, 0-2) at SALPOINTE (6-1, 1-0)

The Lancers need to get past the Apaches to set up another “Game of the Year” at Catalina Foothills next week.

Walden Grove (5-2, 1-1) at CANYON DEL ORO (3-4, 0-1)

The Dorados are looking to run the table and get back into playoff contention while Walden Grove is trying to match a school-record six victories while solidifying an at-large playoff spot if the 4A Kino Region title evades them.

PUEBLO (5-2, 1-0) at Douglas (0-7, 0-2)

The Warriors are taking one game at a time but eight wins would be the most since 1988. The Warriors are also looking to keep climbing the rankings to avoid a tough first-round match.

PALO VERDE (3-5, 2-0) at Amphitheater (1-6, 1-0)

If either team wins out then the Gila Region championship will be theirs. A tough road but still a shot.

3A CONFERENCE

Catalina (5-3, 2-2) BYE WEEK

Santa Rita (0-6, 0-3) at EMPIRE (4-3, 2-1)

Sabino’s loss at Pusch Ridge opened up a door for the Ravens. The Ravens control their own destiny and will take one of the two automatic 3A South Region bids if they win out.

SABINO (5-2, 3-1) at Sahuarita (2-5, 0-3)

Like Empire, Sabino needs to win out to take one of the playoff berths from the region. Sabino hosts Empire on Oct. 27.

Tanque Verde (2-6, 2-2) at PUSCH RIDGE (7-0, 3-0)

Amazingly, even with a win, the Lions would still be mathematically in the mix with four teams fighting for one of the two automatic berths. Tanque Verde would be eliminated but that would mean Pusch Ridge would have to lose to both Catalina and Santa Rita. Not going to happen.

2A CONFERENCE

San Manuel (6-2, 4-2) BYE WEEK

Willcox (4-3, 2-0) at SANTA CRUZ (6-0, 2-0)

Santa Cruz beat Willox 72-0 last year but the Cowboys can’t be overlooked, not after they beat San Manuel 46-44 in double overtime on Friday.  Former NFL player Alonzo Highsmith is coaching Willox but Rishard Davis is one of the hottest coaches right now. The Dust Devils are riding a 28-4 streak including 17 straight regular season wins.

Bisbee (2-5, 0-2) at BENSON (2-4, 1-1)

Benson has won the last five games against Bisbee.

MORENCI (4-3, 1-3) at Tombstone (0-7, 0-3)

Morenci looks to rebound from a 44-0 loss to Round Valley last week.

1A CONFERENCE

TRIVIUM PREP (6-1, 3-0) at Valley Union (5-2, 3-0)

The Crimson Knights are plastering everyone in the 1A South Region this year by a tune of 182-0. The Blue Devils aren’t far behind (174-12). This is for the region title.

St. David (1-6, 1-2) at DUNCAN (1-6, 1-2)

Duncan wins this at home.

Baboquivari (0-7, 0-4) at SAN PASQUAL (1-6, 1-4)

This game will be played on Thursday night.
