Westwood baseball has a road game at Tolleson on March 2 at 6 p.m.. Coming into this game Westwood is 5-2 and Tolleson 4-1.

J. R. Langston, head coach of Westwood explained what this game means as far as the bigger picture. “Well we just need to win games. So, we talk about qualifying for the playoffs. We need to start stacking wins together and with a loss it puts us behind the eight ball to where we have pressure on us at the end of the season. We want to win early so we don’t have as much pressure. It’s hard to say at the first part of the season that’s it’s a must win. But, we do need to start winning games so that we can qualify for the playoffs,” said Langston.

“The keys to the games are to be focused on the game, work our hardest, play 100 percent. Just focusing on winning and everything we do. Just get out there and play hard every day to your best,” said pitcher Jimmy Villa. Villa is a junior and is also a  first baseman and third basemen.

“Our starting pitcher is going to be really good to watch. Our catcher and our center fielder as well. Our catcher, Eric Ortiz, our centerfielder Manny Collier and our starting pitcher Eric Makil,” said Westwood's Francisco Cardenas. Makil is 1-0 and pitched seven innings in his last game. Cardenas is asophomore left-handed pitcher and first basemen.

Westwood pitching coach James Urquidez talked about why this game is important. “Well it’s just as important as the other games. They are all important. But, on Friday its' just a little more important to the boys than some of the other ones,” said Urqidez
