Basha's Jake Jarvis tossed a complete game two-hitter and a trio of teammates combined for all eight RBI Monday as the Bears defeated Verrado, 8-1, on the first day of the annual Horizon National Invitational at Horizon High School.

Gabe Garcia, Seth Beckstead and Cam LaLiberte were the offensive standouts. Garcia and LaLiberte knocked in three runs each and Beckstead two. Each had two RBI in a six-run third inning with Garcia's two-run double the first scoring blow. Basha (7-4)has now won five games in a row. The Bears continue pool play Tuesday against Crean Lutheran (CA) at 12:30 at Horizon HS.

SAHUARITA 14, CHOCTAW (OK) 5: Edwin Martinez broke a 5-5 tie with an single in the bottom of the sixth inning that helped fuel a 10-run rally and lead the Mustangs to victory. Martinez finished 2 for 5 with four RBI. Saul Escarrega added three hits and two RBI and Devin Alvarez a pair of hits and two RBI. Sahuarita (7-1) plays Hamiton in its next game Tuesday at 3:45 at Hamilton HS.

PINNACLE 11, HAMILTON 1 (6 INN): CJ Schawecker and Patrick Donovan each homered as the Pioneers (6-2-1) defeated the Huskies (7-4-1). Schauwecker had two hits and four RBI with his homer a three-run shot in the fourth inning. Donavan hit a two-run shot in the first inning. Pinnacle plays again Tuesday at 9:30 a.m against Choctaw (OK) at Horizon HS.

FOSSIL RIDGE (CO) 9, CANYON DEL ORO 2:  Fossil Ridge scored in each of the first four innings totaling all nine of its runs and defeated the Dorados at Brophy Prep. CDO (6-2) shifts sites to Horizon HS for its second pool game Tuesday at 3:45 against Houston Second Baptist.

CREAN LUTHERAN (CA) 10, BROPHY PREP 7: The Broncos (3-5) surrendered seven runs in the third and fourth innings and a late rally fell short in their opening day of pool play at Brophy Prep. Brophy's next opponent is Verrado on Tuesday at 3:45 at Brophy Prep. Will Worthington had three hits and Andrew Talamante two RBI for Brophy. Lucas Grennan hit a two-run homer in the seventh for the Broncos, who tallied three times in their final at-bat. Marc Lidd homered twice (third and fourth innings) and drove in five runs for Crean Lutheran.

HORIZON 7, HOUSTON SECOND BAPTIST (TX) 5:  Bobby Koch's third RBI of the game, his first via a base hit, broke a tie in the bottom of the sixth and helped the Huskies edge Houston Second Baptist. Kody Huff stole home moments after's Koch's single for an insurance run. Huff pitched the final two innings to pick up the win in relief. He struck out four. Horizon (9-2) plays host to Fossil Ridge (CO) Tuesday at 7 p.m.
