GAME CAPSULES

Marana moved to 1-1 in the tournament thanks to a 6-4 win over Rincon/University (0-1):

The game between Marana and Rincon/University started out as a pitching duel between Jake Thornton and Garrett Nesbitt with Thornton giving up an unearned run to Marana in the top of the second and another unearned run in the top of the fifth.

The Rangers had plenty of chances to score through the first five innings, leaving the bases loaded in the bottom of the first and two in scoring position in the fourth and fifth innings.

Marana took a 3-0 lead in the top of the sixth with a single from Isaiah Roebuck followed by an RBI single from Conor Ryan. The Tigers seemingly put the game out of reach with three more runs in the top of the seventh, paced by a 2 RBI single from Wyatt Crist, but Rincon/University came alive in the bottom half on the inning.

Sam Walsh led things off for the Rangers with a walk and then Cameron Vega reached on a hit-by-pitch. Aaron Gardner followed with an RBI double and then Keith Sanders was walked. Thornton drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in another run to cut the lead down to 6-2 with no outs.

Devin Pierce replaced Nesbitt in the fifth and Connor Peterson took the ball in the seventh and he was able to pick up a strikeout and a pop fly to stall the Ranger comeback with the bases loaded but Jake Sullivan was walked to bring in another run and Karim Ramirez Ruiz reached on an error and the Rangers scored on the play to cut the lead down to 6-4 with the bases loaded. Peterson was able to close the game out with an infield fly.

Phillip Duran also saw pitching action for Rincon/University.

Gardner went 3-for-3 with a double to lead the Rangers and Thornton went 2-2 with two walks. Ryan went 2-4 for Marana.

Andre Green has 15 K’s for Rio Rico:

Frank Silva went 2-3 with two RBI to lead Rio Rico past Flagstaff 8-1. Alana Montano also finished 2-3 with an RBI and Cristobal Flores had a double. Andre Greene picked up the win for the Hawks with 15 strikeouts. Derek Williamson went 2-3 for Flagstaff.

Cole Altherr had a double for Catalina Foothills while Cota and Saul Suazo did the same for the Blue Devils.

Marcel Bachelier hits home run.
